A coastal storm will shake up the weather by late weekend , bringing a few days with periods of rain, gusty northeast winds, and rough surf to southern New England from Sunday night through early Tuesday.

The strongest wind potential is along the coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands, where gusts could top 40 miles per hour. Rough seas may also lead to minor coastal flooding or beach erosion, especially around high tide Monday.

Rain totals will depend on the storm’s exact track. The South Coast and Islands have the best chance for steady rain, while inland areas will be cloudy with periods of rain.

Most spots can expect to pick up 1 and 2 inches of rain, but higher totals are possible along the southern coastline.
