GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Due to ongoing drought and warmer-than-average temperatures, fall color has been relatively underwhelming in parts of Michigan. Luckily, some areas will still peak this weekend.

CURRENT FALL COLOR

Leaf peepers looking to make a trip up north should act quickly. Areas like Ironwood, White Pine and Ontonagon are showing signs of being past peak as leaves begin to fall. Surrounding cities like Marquette and L'Anse are reaching peak color.

Areas closer to water may have a bit more time, though. Trees there are just starting to transition to orange and red.

The active pattern the first week of October will be beneficial to color change in lower Michigan. Most cities in West Michigan saw around a half to inch of rain, which will help enhance the vibrancy of color
