A series of “street takeovers” reported in Boston and other communities in Eastern Massachusetts over the weekend have state and local officials on high alert, as Governor Maura Healey pledged to crack down on the unruly car events.
Crowds were aggressive and their actions destructive in several cases, such as in the South End where a Boston police cruiser was set on fire.
In a statement on Tuesday, Healey said the meetups “are completely destructive, dangerous, and against the law.”
“I am disgusted by this behavior and will be taking action to support law enforcement and hold accountable anyone who attacks our police and communities to the fullest extent of the law,” she said.
Healey’s office said the governor will further discuss the state’s response to “illegal car meetups” Wednes
