DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - The Des Moines School Board Thursday morning unanimously approved former associate superintendent Matt Smith’s contract as interim superintendent.

Smith was named interim superintendent following Ian Roberts’ arrest in September. He will serve a two-year contract with Des Moines Public Schools through the 2026-27 school year.

“Des Moines Public Schools has not just been a job for me, it’s the place I trust with the education of my own children,” Smith said in a press release. “I am honored to step back into this position and to help lead an amazing team as we reimagine education and focus on the future.”

Smith has previously served as interim superintendent during the 2022-23 school year after former Superintendent Thomas Ahart’s resignation.
