ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Residents in Elmira and motorists along I-86 are to be advised of an upcoming closure on the highway that will detour traffic for several miles starting on Friday and into the weekend.

Starting on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., the eastbound lanes of I-86 will be shut down to all traffic from Elmira to Lowman, according to information from the New York State Department of Transportation.

The closure will take up all of Saturday, Oct. 11, and overnight into Sunday, Oct. 12. The road will be reopened on Sunday at 7 a.m.

A detour will be in place, diverting traffic into Elmira and to the Lowman Crossover, where they will be able to return to the highway.
