KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) — This afternoon, dispatchers in Knox County began receiving calls about a scam targeting local residents. Callers impersonated Chief Deputy John Fuller, demanding $6,000 at a bitcoin kiosk on Washington Avenue under threat of arrest.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office emphasized that they, or any law enforcement agency, will never request money over the phone. Residents are advised to hang up and report such calls to 812-882-1502.

Scammers often use familiar names and spoof caller IDs to appear legitimate. Reports indicate the callers have a foreign accent and speak quickly in broken English, which does not match any staff at the sheriff's office.
