A MAN jailed for nine years for the death of another man in Tamworth is set to fight his manslaughter sentence in court.

Dylan Fisher is behind bars serving nine years for taking the life of Jacob Rooks during a daylight stabbing in South Tamworth in June 2023.

In 2024, the then 29-year-old Fisher was jailed in Tamworth District Court. He admitted to one count of manslaughter, after the murder charge he was facing was downgraded.

Now, Fisher - who is serving a non-parole period of five years - has lodged an appeal against his sentence.

Defence solicitors for Fisher filed the application which will be heard in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal in Sydney in a 90-minute hearing set down for November.
