WEST RIDGE — Three people have died after a large fire broke out in a residential building early Thursday on the Far North Side.
The fire started around 1:50 a.m. in an apartment building in the 7000 Block of North Rockwell Street, across the street from Indian Boundary Park, according to the city’s police and fire departments. Three men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and was listed in critical condition, police said. A teenage girl and young boy were taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital with injuries, but their conditions are unknown.
The fire was extinguished by around 5 a.m. Thursday, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the fire department can’t rule out smoking
