CHICAGO — A federal judge granted a temporary restraining order Thursday against National Guard Troops mobilized this week in Illinois against the will of state and local officials.
On Monday, the Illinois State Attorney General sued President Donald Trump’s administration over its decision to send hundreds of National Guard Troops to the Chicago region.
The complaint argued that Trump’s order to federalize hundreds of Illinois and Texas National Guard members, over Pritzker’s objections, violates the Constitution, the Posse Comitatus Act, and long-standing limits on using the military for civilian law enforcement.
In mobilizing the National Guard to the region, Trump made good on longstanding threat to send troops to Chicago and other Democrat-run cities in an effort he has said was me
