PAGE, ND (KXNET) — A combine driver has died after a collision with a train which caused the front locomotive to catch fire, Thursday morning near Page.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, on October 9 at about 11 a.m., a combine was traveling south on a gravel road about five miles northwest of Page when it collided with the front locomotive of a BNSF train heading west.

The impact caused the lead locomotive to catch fire and about 20 train cars to derail. The train's engineer and conductor escaped safely before the fire and were not injured. Lots of cargo was spilled into nearby fields.

The driver of the combine, a 33-year-old man from Colgate, died from the impact of the crash.

Drivers and residents are asked to avoid the area of 133rd Ave. SE between 16th and 17th St. SE
