MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - The state Game and Fish Department is removing zebra mussels found in Smishek Lake.

Last month, Game and Fish announced the discovery of zebra mussels in the Burke County lake.

Removal will begin Monday, Oct. 13.

Game and Fish staff will apply an EPA-safe copper pesticide to the water.

They said it will not affect other aquatic life, but will kill the zebra mussels.

Staff will monitor copper concentrations in the lake over the fall and winter.

If needed, the department will remove some water from the lake and do a secondary treatment.

The boat ramp will be closed next week.
