SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (PIX11) - There's a farm in Central Jersey that wants families to come to their pumpkin patch and have a good time. Just maybe not a smashing good time.
Von Thun Farms has a pumpkin problem on its hands. The century-old, family-run farm has been finding pumpkins out in its field: split, squashed, and some, obliterated into small pieces.
"We put a lot of hard work into that, and I'd never go into some other store and go taking things off the shelf and smash them," said farm manager and fifth-generation farmer Tim Von Thun.
The pumpkins are for sale and cost anywhere from $3 to $20 each, depending on size. They say even ripping the stem off a pumpkin will cause it to rot within days.
This week, the farm is pleading with families to be good to their gourds.
