BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE) - The Louisiana Department of Health issued a warning about improper Botox use after some people were left hospitalized with botulism.
LDH said two Louisiana residents contracted botulism in September 2025 after improperly receiving botulinum toxin (Botox) injections.
According to LDH, one person received injections using an unlicensed product bought online, and the other patient received injections from someone with unknown licensure in a non-medical setting.
Botulism is a rare but emergent illness caused by the botulinum toxin that attacks the body’s nervous system, according to the CDC . It can be contracted in several ways, including through improper Botox injection.
The LDH said symptoms of botulism can include:
Blurry or double vision
Drooping eyelids
