U.S. President Donald Trump not only says he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize — to be announced Friday — he’s actively campaigned for it and pressured the Norwegian awards committee to give it to him.
If his peace plan to end the brutal, two-year-old war in Gaza holds, he deserves it, even though the Nobel committee has already made it all but clear it won’t happen this year.
Trump’s 20-point plan, described by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as “historic,” has reignited hope that the Israeli hostages still held by Hamas will be freed and lead to a ceasefire — ending the bombing of Gaza in which 67,000 Palestinians have died, according to the Hamas-controlled ministry of health.
