Cole County/Jefferson City Emergency Management is promoting the Smart911 app through a public outreach campaign to improve emergency preparedness and response.
"Our mission is to ensure that all citizens of Cole County have a reliable way to receive emergency notifications," Director of Emergency Services Sam Gibson wrote in a news release.
Residents who create a secure safety profile in the Smart911 app will be able to include medication needs, mobility challenges and household details. This information will allow emergency service crews to know who may need extra assistances during an evacuation.
Information in Smart911 during times of disasters will allow dispatchers and first-responders to save time and lives, according to the news release.
