The Columbia Police Department arrested a Columbia man on Thursday in connection with a fire on Paris Road that killed Donovan Baylis , 31, of Columbia on June 15.

Brandon Butchkoski, 47, of Columbia was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree arson, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

On June 15, police responded to an assist-fire call on the 1500 block of Paris Road. Investigation revealed that Butchkoski had set Baylis and the porch of the residence on fire. Baylis succumbed to his injuries on July 14, according to the news release.

Butchkoski tried to set the house on fire again with a backpack on June 29, and Butchkoski was arrested on July 3 on charges of first-degree arson in connection to this fire.
