DEDHAM, Mass. —

Audio recorded during an impromptu hearing this week in Brian Walshe's murder case contains a rare opportunity to hear the accused killer answering questions directly from the judge.

On Monday, Judge Diane Freniere ordered that he undergo a competency evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital for 20 days. That derailed previous plans to start the high-profile murder trial on Oct. 20.

Brian Walshe faces charges of murder, misleading a police investigation, and improper conveyance of a human body.

Ana Walshe, a 39-year-old mother of three from Cohasset, went missing around New Year's Day in 2023. Prosecutors believe Brian Walshe killed and dismembered her before disposing of the body.
