SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the MLK Health Center & Pharmacy in Shreveport is helping women in need.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, the health center hosted its 12th Annual Mammograms & Manicures event to provide free mammograms to uninsured women 40 and older.

Women who attended were also able to get a free manicure, food, prizes, and other health resources.

The health center says Louisiana has one of the highest breast cancer death rates in the country, so they’re hoping to reduce that rate by helping women in need have access to early detection when treatment has the best chance for a positive outcome.
