PORTLAND, Maine — The pay for some federal workers and military troops is still on hold as the government shutdown heads into its second week.
Inactive ready reserve National Guard soldier Danielle Somma said her wife's National Guard unit is deployed in the Horn of Africa without pay right now.
Somma is keeping the wheels turning back home in Maine as she works to keep their family financially stable as they adjust to operating on one income.
She said she and her wife are fortunate, but Somma added that that's not every family's story. She said some soldiers are the sole earners in their families, adding that she can't imagine how they feel about being unable to financially support their loved ones.
