KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The Rowan-Cabarrus Walk to End Alzheimer’s raised a record amount of money for the event last weekend.

Alzheimer’s Association officials said so far, the event has raised $90,000 to fund research, reduce risk and increase early detection, and provide quality care and more. Just shy of their goal, the community hopes to raise $95,000 by the end of the year.

The walk was held Saturday, Oct. 4, at Atrium Health Ballpark. There were 485 participants and 63 teams.

NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney’s Foundation is the top fundraising team, raising $13,382. The other top fundraising teams currently include Edward Jones - Region 244 - Rowan-Cabarrus ($9,060) and Taylor Glen ($5,605).

Donations are still being accepted through Dec. 31 at act.alz.org/Rowan
