Locals have deemed the closure of a popular Cambridge restaurant as the “end of an era”. Last weekend, it was confirmed that the Gardenia in Rose Crescent, locally known as Gardies or Gardis, had closed after serving people for several decades .

The family-owned Greek restaurant served students and celebrities such as Stephen Fry and Michael Portillo. The closure was confirmed by the building landlords, Gonville and Caius College, who said the restaurant closed in June.

Gardis owner Greta Saikovskaja told Cambridgeshire Live she was heartbroken that the restaurant had closed. She said she will “miss” the students she served.
