A man will face court this afternoon over the alleged assault of a 71-year-old woman at a park in Sydney's inner west.
Emergency services were called to a park on Francis Street in Strathfield at 12.10pm yesterday, where police were told a man had assaulted the woman and left the scene.
She was found with significant injuries and rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
The man and woman are not known to each other.
Following police inquiries, a 52-year-old man was arrested at a home in Strathfield at 8.30am today.
He was taken to Auburn police station, where he was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common assault.
He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today.
