Oldham County Schools will not allow a religious education program to provide Bible study during school hours.
During a special meeting on Oct. 8, the Oldham County Board of Education unanimously voted to reject a proposal from LifeWise , an Ohio-based religious education nonprofit founded in 2018 that aims to bring the Bible into public schools.
The proposal was for a pilot program for grades 3 through 5 at Locust Grove Elementary, in which students would leave the building for one hour a week to participate in a LifeWise program at a local church .
But after months of discussion both within the board and the community, the Oldham County board rejected the proposal, citing concerns about liability, logistics and lost instruction time.
