The Los Angeles Dodgers advanced to the NLCS in dramatic fashion on Thursday night, beating the Orion Kerkering and the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 in 11 innings to close out the NLDS. It was a tense game that ended in heartbreak for the Phillies after a routine play turned into a disaster.

With two outs in the 11th, Dodgers slugger Andy Pages hit a soft grounder right back to reliever Kerkering. What should have been a simple toss to first for the final out became the play that ended Philadelphia’s season. Instead of throwing to first baseman Bryce Harper, Kerkering tried to gun it home, and the ball sailed over catcher J.T. Realmuto’s head, allowing pinch-runner Hyeseong Kim to score the winning run and send Los Angeles to the NLCS.
