A paraprofessional at Socastee High School has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Patrick Fischer was arrested by the Horry County Police Department and charged with assault and battery third degree, and unlawful conduct toward a child, in connection with an incident that happened earlier that school day, Horry County Schools spokesperson Lisa Bourcier confirmed.

"School administration contacted law enforcement and immediately reported the incident. Mr. Fischer has been placed on administrative leave, and the incident remains under investigation," Bourcier said in a statement.

Fischer has been a paraprofessional with Horry County Schools since 2022.
