New Delhi: India’s homegrown car safety program is gearing up for a big leap. Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP), which began in October 2023, is set to enter its second phase in 2027. The new version, informally being called Bharat NCAP 2.0, will add tougher crash tests and make use of advanced dummies to deliver more accurate safety results.

So far, 24 models have been rated under the current system. Automakers have been participating voluntarily, and buyers are slowly beginning to notice safety stars alongside mileage and features.
