LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Catholic Action Center released the results from this year’s homeless street survey on Thursday.

According to the report, nearly 3,000 people are experiencing homelessness in Lexington. Officials say this is a nearly six percent decrease from last year.

However, officials with Street Voice Council say some of the homeless may not have been counted.

“There’s some homeless that didn’t even show up yet,” said Greg Searight. “They’re still living up under bridges, too scared to come out. Families are too scared to come out because they don’t want to lose their families. They don’t want to lose their daughters, their sons.”

Survey volunteers were sent out to count the homeless across the city back in August.
