The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation intends to repeal a rule requiring Fairbanks and North Pole-area homes to obtain an energy rating before sale.
DEC’s proposal comes on the heels of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s September decision to revoke that requirement from Alaska’s State Implementation Plan (SIP) for the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s nonattainment area.
“With EPA’s recent clarification, DEC is moving to repeal the regulation to reduce unnecessary requirements for property owners,” DEC stated in a Wednesday news release.
The greater Fairbanks and North Pole area is designated as a serious nonattainment area because the 24-hour levels of wintertime fine particulate matter pollution (PM2.5) exceed the Clean Air Act limits.
