A major breakthrough in the killer cough syrup scandal has shaken India’s pharmaceutical industry. Sresan Pharmaceuticals, the Kancheepuram-based manufacturer of the now-banned Coldrif syrup, is set to be shut down permanently. Its owner, Ranganathan, has been arrested and made a sensational confession, revealing the syrup was distributed not just in Madhya Pradesh, but also to Odisha and Puducherry. State drug regulators uncovered over 350 shocking lapses at the plant, prompting show-cause notices from Tamil Nadu and the suspension of two senior drug inspectors.
