ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Dr. Stephen Coleman has partnered with Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell to host his eighth Unity in the Community event in mid-October, which will honor first responders in the Twin Tiers.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Empire Sports and Event Center located at 300 N Main St. in Elmira. The event is free to attend and open to everyone.

During the event, members of the community are invited to come together and recognize those in the Twin Tiers who serve their communities when an emergency occurs.

''It's about time that first responders and firefighters get the recognition they deserve, and this will happen on October 18th," said Mayor Mandell. "These brave men and women in communities throughout the Twin Tiers risk their lives
