Spending on Quebec’s French language watchdog continues to rise, with an 11 per cent jump last year — nearly five times the province’s inflation rate — part of a steady upward trajectory.
The rise comes as the Office québécois de la langue française intensifies inspections, including a large-scale operation now underway targeting commercial signage along major corridors in Montreal, Laval, and the South Shore.
The OQLF’s $49-million budget for 2024-25 mirrors the Coalition Avenir Québec government’s drive to promote French while restricting English. It is now more than double the amount allocated before Premier François Legault first came to office.
The OQLF published its annual report this week for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
This year’s $49 million in spending compares to
