NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Britain police Friday confirmed the human remains found in a large container in the backyard of an abandoned home on Wednesday are that of "an adolescent female."

"While we understand there are still many questions surrounding this case, it is crucial for us to allow the Medical Examiner’s Office to continue their work," police said via city officials.

New Britain police are continuing to investigate the timeline and exact location of events leading to the discovery of the remains.

Earlier Friday, local school officials said they're aware of "unconfirmed reports" the remains are that of a former student.
