Novi officials have approved a $4.74 million contract to hire a Royal Oak-based firm to put forth the city’s vision to overhaul its public safety facilities.

The Novi City Council voted 6-1 this week to hire HED, a full-service architecture, planning, engineering and design firm, for the city’s new public safety center and fire stations.

The contract will be funded by a $120 million bond package voters approved in August. Speaking at City Council meeting on Monday, Mayor Justin Fischer said the contract is below the upper limit budgeted for this work in the bond.

Fischer said the contract strikes a balance between affordability and quality of services.
