GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) reported on Friday that Grant County’s first case of avian influenza (bird flu) was found in a commercial poultry flock.
The Grant County Health District (GCHD) says no human cases have been reported as of Friday. Officials with GCHD and the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) are monitoring for illness among workers who may have been exposed to the virus as a precautionary measure.
GCHD says while the risk to humans is still considered low, there are steps you should take to keep you and your family safe. Those who have job-related or recreational exposure to infected birds or other animals are at higher risk of exposure and should take precautions.
