ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL (KWQC) - As the government shutdown stretches into its 10th day, more than a thousand civilian workers on the Rock Island Arsenal are furloughed and going without paychecks.

Alison DeVilder of Moline is one of them.

“It is very nerve-wracking to not know where your paycheck is going to come from and to still have to pay your water bill, your electricity, your mortgage, and or rent,” she said.

Federal workers typically receive back pay when a shutdown ends, but President Donald Trump has threatened to withhold it and announced Friday that there will be mass firings of federal workers. Essential military personnel continue to work, but also don’t get paid.

A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen confirmed that more than a thousand Arsenal workers are furloughed.
