STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An ambulance was badly damaged after it apparently caught fire in West Brighton on Friday afternoon.

The badly-charred vehicle was seen on Forest Avenue near Broadway.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m., according to emergency radio transmissions.

The Richmond University Medical Center ambulance sustained significant burn damage to its engine and front sides panels.

The vehicle’s hood was removed.
