Reports of a student with a gun prompted a lockdown at Thousand Islands Secondary School Friday, but the threat proved to be “exaggerated,” said police.

At about 11 a.m. Friday, police received a 911 call from staff at TISS after a student had reported that another youth was waiting outside the school with the intent to harm them, and was in possession of a firearm.

“Although no firearm had been seen at that time, school staff responded promptly and placed the school in a hold-and-secure,” said police.

“Police officers arrived on scene, secured access to the property, and began a thorough search for any potentially armed individuals. The youth identified in the report was eventually located,” police added.
