Even if Brian Shelleby didn’t physically put flame to gasoline inside his Castle Shannon home last month, he’s still responsible for the fire that killed his teenage daughter, prosecutors argued in court Friday morning.

He still poured the gasoline from the basement to the first floor, throughout the living room and dining room and into the kitchen, said Deputy District Attorney Emma Schoedel. He knew his wife was cooking, and that his daughter was upstairs.

“He admitted his intention was he wanted to set the house on fire,” she said.

Deputy Fire Marshal Michael Shawley said that while he couldn’t say for certain whether Mr. Shelleby lit the trail of gasoline or if the vapors were ignited by the home’s gas oven — it was likely the latter.
