A major change is on the way for Eastern North Carolina as a developing coastal low pushes north along the Carolina shoreline this weekend. This will be an impactful system, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous marine conditions through Sunday night.

Tonight: High pressure continues to slide offshore as a coastal trough lingers across Eastern NC. Northeast winds will continue gusting 20–35 mph, strongest along the beaches. Showers begin to increase late tonight, spreading north by early Saturday as the developing low off Florida lifts closer to our coast.

Saturday: Conditions go downhill fast. Winds will strengthen as the coastal low deepens, tightening the pressure gradient between the offshore low and high pressure to the north. Expect wind gusts 35–50 mp
