The Peoria Unified School District governing board has approved a policy rewrite regarding grooming and student/staff boundaries that has undergone extensive conversation and reviews over the last few months.

Policy 4-202 Staff/Student Boundaries was on the books, and this summer, President Heather Rooks requested a re-write that she initially titled No Grooming and Child Protection.

The updated policy was approved under the title Staff/Student Boundaries and Student Protection, with the purpose stating that “all employees, volunteers, and contractors are expected to maintain professional boundaries that promote trust, protect student welfare, and foster an environment free from exploitation, manipulation, or abuse.”

The updated policy uses the U.S. Department of Education’s definition
