SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Luke Smidt, division chief with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, says dry conditions were a factor in a Thursday fire in north Sioux Falls at a salvage yard.

"It's very dry out right now, and we just want everybody to be very mindful of the dry conditions and be mindful of the decisions they're making in terms of their entertainment this time of year," Smidt said Friday.

"Right now, we are seeing a lot of dry conditions out there," Maria Munkvold, assistant emergency manager for Minnehaha County, said Friday. "A lot of high winds as well."

And in these dry conditions, a small fire can easily become a much bigger problem.
