HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- In the battle for Connecticut's 1st Congressional District, the two most well-known candidates vying for the Democratic Party's nomination took in nearly $2 million in campaign contributions in the third quarter of the year.

Congressman John Larson's campaign said the Democratic incumbent hauled around $800,000. Luke Bronin, the former mayor of Hartford, said his campaign raised around $1.18 million.

The 1st District is centered around Hartford and West Hartford, spanning east toward Manchester and south toward Middletown and Southington. The district snakes northwest from Hartford toward upper Litchfield County and the Connecticut-Massachusetts border, forming a claw shape which hooks around Avon and Simsbury and then turns south toward Torrington.
