An inactive remanufacturing site in Port Alberni due to company bankruptcy is being repurposed by a new owner with plans to churn out a needed housing development for Ucluelet.

IGV Housing is on the verge of building a 228-unit housing development in Ucluelet and needed a facility to build its prefabricated homes.

It found one in Port Alberni, a site formerly owned by the San Group that went bankrupt and shuttered its operations in December 2024.

The equipment in the former remanufacturing plant on Stamp Avenue has been auctioned off and is now being cleared out as IGV Housing prepares to turn the three main buildings into a production line for new homes.
