There is renewed debate about which holiday is being celebrated after President Donald Trump this week signed a proclamation declaring Monday will once again be referred to as Christopher Columbus Day.

For many in California who see Monday as Indigenous Peoples Day, the president's declaration is not only a cause for debate, but deeply insulting.

In the South Bay, many in San Jose's Little Italy had mixed feelings about the president's proclamation. Several people who spoke to NBC Bay Area on Friday said they understand the political motivation, but would also like to see Christopher Columbus's role in history more out in the open.
