ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Chamblee man is thankful to be alive after being run over by a van while trying to protect his livelihood from being stolen.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 13, someone tried to steal a trailer belonging to Grover Poindexter’s landscaping business.

“I work hard for that, and to see somebody within 30 seconds figure they can come and take that,” said. Poindexter.

A Chamblee police report described the suspect damaging multiple vehicles and trees, trying to haul the trailer out with a van. It also detailed an altercation in which Poindexter entered the van to stop the suspect, only to be thrown out.

Poindexter said the thief ran him over with the van.
