ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - After the federal indictment of DeKalb County’s school superintendent, a Georgia lawmaker from the area is asking the state to step in.
This week Dr. Devon Horton was federally charged with fraud for allegedly taking kickbacks on contracts.
The allegations are tied to Horton’s previous role overseeing a small school district in a Chicago suburb. He was hired three years ago to lead DeKalb County Schools, the state’s third-largest education system.
State Sen. Emanuel Jones, D–Decatur, called on Gov. Brian Kemp to exert his power to investigate Horton, and there is some precedent for that request.
