ASPEN HILL, Md. — Several people gathered Thursday evening at a church in Montgomery County to honor the life of 11-year-old Summer Lim, who died after being struck by a county public school bus.

Friends, classmates, family members — and even strangers — came together at the Church of Christ at Manor Woods for a candlelight vigil to remember the young girl and support her grieving family.

“When someone’s hurting, we need to be there,” said Pastor Carl Sweatman, who led prayers during the vigil. “It’s a comfort to know that there’s that many people who show up and can be of comfort and consolation to somebody who is grieving.”
