Celebrity chef James Martin has confessed that he didn't fully appreciate the charm of York, a city in his home county of North Yorkshire, until later in life.

The TV host, known for his show 'James Martin's Saturday Morning', opened up about his relationship with the county where he was born and raised, from his childhood explorations to his adult working life after making a name for himself in London .

In particular, he spoke highly about York, admitting that although visiting the city used to be a treat, he didn't value it as much as he should have.

Born in Malton, the chef shared his thoughts on York and one of Yorkshire's most iconic seaside towns, Whitby, as well as The Shambles, with Food and Travel Magazine, reports Yorkshire Live .
