An off-shore worker hit a homeless man with a paving slab, leaving his victim with extensive injuries.

Charlie Forsythe, 21, made a striking gesture towards the man, who was sitting outside The Pig Iron pub on Albert Road in Middlesbrough , on June 13. Teesside Crown Court has heard that Forsythe was then captured on CCTV striking the man.

The victim, who was sitting with all of his belongings late at night, moved away, but Forsythe picked up a piece of paving slab outside of the HSBC bank. Nicoleta Alistari, prosecuting, said that Forsythe hit the man with the slab, and the victim fell to the ground.

Forsythe hit his victim again, before running off. He was tracked by CCTV operatives and the police stopped him. Ms Alistari said he was sweating "...as if he had been running. He told
