HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington man is awaiting extradition proceedings after being arrested in Ohio this week on a sexual assault charge from Cabell County.

Huntington police allege Mark Purtee, 52, sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl last month. He’s charged with First-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 12

Police said Purtee was a friend of the victim’s family.

Detectives and U.S. Marshals arrested Purtee in Marion County, Ohio earlier this week after a brief standoff.

According to a statement from Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins, “During the course of the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at Purtee’s residence. Two shotguns and ammunition were seized. Purtee is a convicted felon due to a kidnapping conviction on January 13, 2007, in Maricopa
